5.9 earthquake in Virginia felt in Washington, New York City, North Carolina & Michigan.

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake centered northwest of Richmond, Va., shook much of Washington, D.C., and was felt as far north as Rhode Island and New York City and across Michigan.

The earthquake’s epicenter was 87 miles southwest of the capital near Mineral, Va., the US Geological Survey said. It struck at a depth of 3.7 miles.
